Pink Ribbon Pilates for Breast Cancer Survivors
Core Pilates Dallas is also a Pink Ribbon Certified Studio. We specialize in the development of individualized restorative exercise for women as they recover and work to build their bodies.
Pilates exercises can help breast cancer survivors recover from treatment, according to the September/October 2005 issue of PilatesStyle magazine, Betsy Mollenkamp reports.
“This cancer affects how you feel as a woman.”, says exercise physiologist Doreen Jones, who founded the Pink Ribbon Program, then discovered she had breast cancer two years later. “Pilates makes you feel long and lean. When you are done, you are energized and you feel lifted and lengthened.”
Pilates can help breast cancer survivors increase range of motion in arms, shoulders and abdominals. Patients can regain confidence and vitality through the gentleness of the Pilates exercise methods. The deep breathing that is integral to every Pilates exercise improves lymphatic drainage and also promotes stabilization to shoulders, low back and pelvic region.
Pilates is an excellent way to condition and gain strength, flexibility, and overall body symmetry, while minimizing impact on joints.
