The Pilates Method

Developed by Joseph Pilates 70 years ago.

What is Pilates?

The Pilates Method was developed by Joseph Pilates more than 70 years ago. Pilates was a sickly child and suffered from asthma, rickets, and rheumatic fever, and he dedicated his entire life to improving his physical strength.

In a series of controlled movements, the Pilates Method is performed on uniquely designed spring-loaded equipment or on a mat to work the deep musculature of the body to stabilize and support the spine.

As a result, the spine elongates while muscles are toned and flexibility of the joints are increased.

Pilates can help strengthen underdeveloped muscles and you can learn to relax overused muscles. This  helps  prevent against injury and allows for more healthy movement, increased range of motion and improved strength and flexibility.

Pilates emphasizes movements that require the use of multiple muscle groups simultaneously. Controlled breathing and concentration make Pilates a workout for your body and mind.

Pilates is adaptable to any fitness level and will allow you to gradually build your bodys  strength, flexibility and endurance.
